Lyndsay Steele obtains Paralegal Qualification in Wills, Trusts and Executries

Aug 19, 2022

I joined the firm in August 2019, taking up a position as a Private Client Assistant. Previous to that I worked within various roles in Law Firms in Ayr and Kilmarnock although have always had a keen interest in the administration of estates.

The idea of being able to undertake a Paralegal Qualification in Wills, Trusts and Executries was first mentioned at my interview with Thiona McQuiston. The thought of being supported on furthering my career was a real selling point when it came to accepting my role within The McKinstry Company.

Once the course was underway, I never felt any pressure from TMC nor Central Law Training as you have up to eighteen months to complete the course and within that time you can take as much or as little time as needed on the eleven individual assignments.  Over the course of the last six months, I have worked through the assignments which were marked and returned to me by my tutor from Strathclyde University before sitting the final exam. The exam paper was marked very quickly, and I had my result the next day.  I have been well supported by all of the team within Private Client, between my colleagues taking an interest and asking how the course was going to being able to ask questions and having my assignments reviewed to make sure I was on the right track.

Now that I have a Paralegal Qualification I have applied to join the Law Society Accreditation Scheme and will complete a one years traineeship with them being supported by my supervising solicitor, Partner Thiona McQuiston.

I am extremely grateful to the Partners for their support and advice throughout my trainging.  My qualification allows me to carry out my job to the very best of my ability.
