The McKinstry Company Family Law team collaborate with leading legal software company, Settify

June 5, 2020

The McKinstry Company are pleased to announce that the Family Law team have collaborated with leading legal software company, Settify, to become one of the first law firms in Scotland to make this legal intelligence software available to all our family law clients.

Settify intelligently interacts with clients, whether from our website or by invitation. It provides clients with customised, helpful information relevant to their family law matter, and allow you to provide a full brief of your initial instructions.

We have made the software package free to use on the family law pages of our website - and can be used without obligation before you engage as a client. It covers all areas of family law, from pre-nuptial or cohabitation agreements through to separations or complicated divorce cases. We have worked closely with Settify to develop a system which is interactive and straightforward. It can be accessed, and saved, at any time, 24 hours a day to suit your lifestyle and manner in which you wish to interact with The McKinstry Company.

A break-up or family dispute is among the most stressful life events and this system is designed to make the process of instructing the expert family law team at The McKinstry Company as simple, smooth and straightforward as possible so that we can be proactive in helping you right from the beginning.

In family law there is always a lot of information to be gathered at the start. A great deal of time is usually spent going over details, in particular regarding assets, debts and other financial income which clients often do not know or cannot recall ‘off the top of their head’, meaning that sometimes the solicitor is left with an incomplete picture, even after the first meeting.

With our new Settify system, clients can input as much (or as little) information as they want prior to meeting with us, and this can be done all at once, or in stages, just whenever is convenient to you. This allows us to obtain information about your circumstances in advance so that face to face meetings can be much more focussed on advising on the way forward and planning a strategy for you instead of spending time in meetings noting down administrative details. Advice can be tailored in advance, the whole process becoming much more effective and efficient, with the added benefit of saving on the cost of fees.

It also allows gives you greater clarity on what kind of things need to be thought about and what information will need to be obtained. Our AI system will guide you through the type of information that you will input to provide the basis of instruction in your case.

It is entirely up to each client how much they wish to share with us. The Settify AI system will engage in a “conversation” with you to take you through this initial process. There is no obligation to use the software at all if you are not comfortable - we appreciate some clients may not want to use the system, and we are happy if your preference is to provide the information in a more traditional manner at a client meeting. However, we are sure that the user-friendly arrangement we have in place will appeal to many in particular where clients are looking at new ways they wish to transact many parts of their affairs.

The innovative artificial intelligence technology is there as a tool to enable us to better advise and assist you, but will not replace face to face meetings with our solicitors. We are always approachable and able to be contacted by telephone, email or video call. The new system will help greatly at the start of the process assisting our solicitors in providing tailored legal advice to you.

On this collaboration Edward Kirk, Settify’s UK Head commented:-

“It is important for solicitors to meet clients where they wish to be met, particularly given the current situation. We are therefore delighted that The McKinstry Company are able to offer this intuitive tool to enable their clients to commence their family law matter online, at a time and place of their choosing.”
